Plant-based Nutrition

Omanisa is a vegan naturopath who loves helping vegans thrive and glow with radiant health while also helping non-vegans increase the quantity and quality of plant foods in their diet.

While Om’s area of expertise is whole-food plant-based nutrition, she is very happy to meet you where you’re at, and help you make gradual, small steps towards a healthier diet and lifestyle, according to your personal values.

“Whole foods” are natural foods that are whole, unrefined, or minimally refined ingredients, with minimal processing. “Plant-based” means food that comes from plants and is free of animal ingredients such as meat, milk, eggs, or honey.

There is overlap between whole-food, plant-based (WFPB) and vegan diets, but there are also some key differences. A vegan diet can include highly processed imitation meats and cheeses, while a WFPB diet is rich in whole or minimally processed, close-to-nature foods.

Some people find it easier to include some processed foods, due to a busy lifestyle or perhaps because they’re still adjusting to the flavour and texture changes when going vegan or transitioning away from animal flesh and products. Others feel better and get better blood test results when they prepare their meals with fresh whole food ingredients. A plant-based diet can reduce inflammation and the risk of Type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and some kinds of cancer. Athletes in particular love the faster recovery time, fitness payoffs, and improved energy levels.

Omanisa can help you find the right balance for you, while also troubleshooting some of the problems that can arise when we’re making dietary changes.
