So often, my work as a healer, counsellor and naturopath is about helping people enjoy life more. For example, I help them slow down and really soak life up, savour the moments, let go of the stresses and heal the wounds that get in the way.
It’s incredible how a simple conversation can help you see things differently, in a way that lifts the weight from your heart, and then suddenly, everything in your life seems a little brighter.
I love helping people reframe their view of themselves and their life experiences. I began learning this as a skill set when I was about 14, from my spirit helpers. My teen years were full of trauma and a lack of safety, and my inner world journeys with my spirit helpers were a vital lifeline that got me through this time in my life. One of the lessons they taught me was to look for the gift in disguise, the light in the darkness. We can, of course, do this without discounting or glossing over the very real challenges we’re facing and the pain that comes with them. I think part of this skill is about keeping life’s inevitable hardships in their lane and not allowing these shadows to be a lens through which we see everything. Sometimes we try to buffer ourselves against hurt and disappointment, against “getting our hopes up” by seeing life through a cynical lens and expecting the worst. We don’t bother looking for the light, and we think we’re being “realistic” when in fact we’re only seeing one side of life, one side of ourselves, one side of our own story.

Past trauma can be a powerful block that stops us from being able to enjoy life, partly because we so often feel that we can’t afford to relax. Your mindbody learn to “sit on the edge of its seat”, to stay alert for trouble, and when you’re doing that it’s not so easy to relax and soak up the joy and pleasure of life. The other problem I see a lot of, is the repressive coping and the numbing techniques people instinctively use to self-medicate their pain and emotional distress way. When you tune out your pain, you also tune out a lot of other wonderful feelings in the process, and you stop being able to hear the voice of your basic self, your inner child, your instinctual inner wisdom and deep inner needs. It’s this voice, this self, when you heal its wounds and restore trust between you and it, that can guide you towards deep and genuine happiness.
The inner child, when it’s happy and healthy, lives in your lower hara or tandien, your belly chakra. This energy centre vibrates at an orange frequency of Light when see with psychic vision, and the aura colour I find in a person’s field when their inner child is happy is a gorgeous colour I call Playful Orange. This is the aura remedy I add to blends for reproductive health, gut health, joint health and happy hormonal balance. I also use it to support flexibility and adaptability, because the spirit medicine of the “happy inner child” has a youthful ability to bounce back from setbacks, loss and disappointments. It’s curious, adventurous and able to find novel solutions to the problems we encounter in life.

I find this energy centre in the body intriguing, because it’s a central point of balance… not only functioning as our muscular core, but also as our pivot point, in so many ways. It’s the home of our reproductive system, where we often store memories and wounds from childhood. Healing this centre often requires that we love and care for our inner child in ways that might have been lacking in our childhood, and that we “pivot” (adapt and change direction) by not passing wounds down through the family line, or projecting our childhood wounds into our current relationships. In this Thursday night’s online Spiritual Self-care Class we’ll be talking about (and with) our inner child, connecting with them in a spiritual healing journey (guided meditation). Please come along if you’d like to join us!
This is also the home for our gut, specifically, our large bowel. In iridology, the study of the iris, the gut is at the centre, the hub of the wheel, and naturopaths have long considered this part of the body central to healing. In this Saturday’s herbal medicine class, I’ll be talking about gut health, with a special focus on the remedies in my clinic I use to heal and restore gut health, and the importance of plant-based wholefoods. You can join us via Zoom….. or in person if you are local to Darwin.
This week I’m also offering a special discounted “Enjoy Life” package for $165AU, which includes:
