I recently played a 3-card ‘pick a card’ game with my audience on Facebook, and then revealed the cards during my weekly Spirit Medicine Self-care Masterclass.

So far I’ve revealed the Spirit Guide card with my facebook audience, with some beautiful quotes from my self-care students…
…and I thought before I reveal the next card, I’d share more about the river goddess, from my Spirit Guide card and book set. I was quite delighted to discover that this spirit guide sketch is most likely depicted Saraswati, the Hindu goddess of wisdom- because she’s a river connected with the milky way, which is exactly what this sketch is depicting. I learned this during an accidental channeling moment at lunch after apprenticeship class on Friday with my students. Sometimes they ask me questions and I hear myself reply and the reply startles me because I’m channelling something through that I didn’t conscious know myself! That’s a big part of what I love about teaching: I not only learn from my students (we’re cross-pollinating each other), I’m actively learning from Spirit as I teach.
Anyway! Here’s an excerpt from my Spirit Guide book about the River Goddess. I’m slowly transferring the Spirit Guides course that goes with this deck over to my new website by the way!
RIVER GODDESS

It’s time to let go and flow with the River of Life. If you feel lost or you’ve forgotten who you are, trust River Goddess to guide you back to your core, back to wholeness. River Goddess will wash you clean of old debris, helping you release the tears of yesteryear that have wedged like logs in the stream of your heart. She reminds us that everything changes, and to wear the wrinkles and scars of our history with pride, for they make us wiser and deeper.
River Goddess is ancient, as old as the Earth itself. When I first met her, she showed me rivers of sand, lines on the surface of the Earth where old river systems used to run and connect up with each other, but no longer do. The pathways of rivers over the surface of this planet have changed over time but the “lines” are still there. These energy pathways still exist, both within the Earth itself and in the atmosphere above, like the invisible roots and branches of a giant tree. River Goddess is an overarching consciousness that binds and connects all rivers through time and space as One.
Is there a river or a body of water you feel a special connection with, or that you feel called by?
This master shapeshifter reflects the beauty of the Milky Way back to itself and wears its stars as her sparkling gown. Her touch awakens our spiritual third eye, helping us consciously choose new ways of seeing. Most of us are asleep, says River Goddess. We don’t know that the dream we are dreaming comes from us, or at the very least, is being shaped by us. “Use your focus of awareness and attention to shift yourself out of your little stream of consciousness back into a broader awareness of the Great River. Now steer your consciousness down a new and more nourishing pathway by narrowing your focus.”
Honouring & giving thanks
Where is the nearest natural waterway in your life? When was the last time you spent time there? Is there anything you could do to help improve the health of this or some other waterway? Be like a child doing a rain dance to serenade the water spirits! Reflect with gratitude on the role water plays in your life, in your body, and on this planet as a whole.
Call on River Goddess when:
- You have a lot of history stored inside you, it’s weighing you down, and you need to let go of it to uncover your true self and make room for new light to enter your life.
- You feel as though you’ve wandered off the path that is yours.
- You need help letting go and going with the flow, “letting your hair down” and relaxing.
- You want to awaken your third eye, expand your perception of reality and dream up a better story, a more nourishing narrative, a more rewarding way of seeing and being.
- You would like to have mutually nourishing relationships with other people who can join you in looking for the light, the good, the beauty and strength within each other, and in so doing, empower it.
